Kufuor endorses Bawumia as the right candidate to lead Ghana

Former Ghanaian leader John Agyekum Kufuor who governed between 2001 and 2009 has banged his gavel. He says the choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the coming 2024 general elections could not have come at the right time.

When the former president was given the platform at the event to launch the current flagbearer of his party, the first point he raised was how he noticed and identified Dr Bawumia as a potential for the future. Calling him ”a man of destiny,” he said, when he was the sitting president he attended a form in London where Dr. Bawumia also spoke. According to him, Dr Bawumia who was then the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, made an intelligent statement that immediately brought him into a sharp focus.

The former President, said, the current drift of governance is about the digital economy and understanding global geopolitics. He said these require capable personalities directing highly motivated teams not only to extricate populations from the clutches of new realities but to deliver prosperity within daunting conditions. The imagery for this is pulling the chestnut from the blazing fire.

Former President Kufuor said Dr. Bawumia has established himself as a top candidate who aside from knowing his professional mettle, has proved loyal to the NPP and the Republic of Ghana. He did not gloss over key personal qualities of the man he called ”Ghana’s politician of the moment” in his terse extemporaneous speech, saying Dr. Bawumia has the temperament and sobriety necessary for people’s management. All these put together, the President said, provide robust and humane leadership that engenders stability and growth.
