The Kwahu South Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has ordered the closure of schools in Kwahu Bepong following a shooting incident which resulted in the death of two people.
On Sunday, February 4, clashes between some angry residents and the police resulted in bloody exchanges and destruction of property.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Ofori Attah, the decision to close down all schools is to help prevent reprisal attacks and protect school children in the area.
“The incident happened yesterday and it won’t be advisable for children to go to school. The basic school students won’t be going to school including the Day students at the Senior High. However, those in the boarding house will remain on campus till the case is settled,” he said.
Condemning the incident, he added that MUSEC is meeting to find lasting solutions to the issue to dissipate the tension in Kwahu Bepong.
“We are going to meet as leaders so by noon, everything will be fine,” Mr Attah assured.
He advised residents to always comply with police instructions during emergencies.
He also called on the police to prioritize professional conduct and explore alternative crowd control methods to minimize harm.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 25 persons in connection with the clash.
A statement from the police stressed efforts being made to get the other suspects arrested to face justice.
