The Chief of Staff, Ms Frema Osei Opare, has challenged the women’s wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to lead the campaign for the 2020 general election.

She said naturally, women appealed better to the conscience of people than their men and as such, the women of the party should use that skill to help the party in the 2020 elections.

Women’s conference

Speaking at the Ashanti Regional NPP women’s conference in Kumasi last Sunday, Ms Osei Opare said women had benefited the most from the policies of the NPP and as such should be better placed to tell the success story of the government.

According to her, women were mostly the beneficiaries of all the social interventions of the government which targeted the vulnerable.

She cited the Free Senior High School, the enhanced Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme and the free maternal health care as some of the policies which were targeted at women.

She was full of praise for the regional executive, especially Nana Ama Ampomah, the Regional Women’s Organiser, for organising the conference, which, she noted would spur the grass-roots members on to work.

“I am happy that the regional women’s organiser has been able to unite all the female ranks of the party and this means we are ready as women to lead the upcoming 2020 campaign to ensure our leader and President gets a renewal of his mandate,” Ms Osei Opare said.

The conference was attended by delegates from all the 47 constituencies in the region with representatives from other regions to lend their support to their counterparts in the Ashanti Region.

Earlier, the National Women’s Organiser of the party, Ms Kate Gyamfua, urged the women’s wing, as well as other identifiable lady groups within the party, to forge ahead in unity to support the NPP government.

She said only a united front could win the NPP a second term in office, adding, “in unity lies the party’s strength.”

For her part, the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser, Nana Ama Ampomah, called on her colleagues to stay united to retain the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on the seat for another term.

She asked for support for the government to fulfil all the promises it made to the people of Ghana.
Nana Ampomah pledged to work hard to ensure victory for the party come December 2020.

Ambassadors

The National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, tasked the women’s wing to be the ambassadors of the achievements of the government.

He also commended the Ashanti regional women’s wing for organising such a conference and called for its sustenance for grass-roots mobilisation as a way of keeping the support base energised.
