We’re not in support of November 7 election date proposal – NDC

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected the Electoral Commission’s proposal to change the election date from December 7 to November 7.

The contentious proposal was tabled during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024.

However, the NDC expressed its strong opposition to any alteration in the established election timeline.

NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, took to Facebook on Wednesday, January 24, to highlight the party’s position.

He stressed the importance of inclusive and proper dialogue to address any concerns or improvements required in the electoral process.

Despite the party’s rejection of the proposed date change, Dr. Omane Boamah indicated the NDC’s willingness to engage in discussions about voting on prayer or worship days.

Meanwhile, the commission also suggested that the day be declared a public holiday to allow full participation in the electoral process.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare, said that the commission has for years been pushing for a change in the election date.

He explained that political parties had raised concerns about the limited time December 7 provided to have either a run-off or correct certain errors that might have occurred during the elections.
