NDC Draws A Fence Around 9 Veep Hopefuls

The grapevine is not done yet about the hot issues concerning who becomes the running mate to former President John Mahama.

The search party is focusing on at least 9 persons. They include, 2 women one of whom is the presumptive Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Close confidants and the inner circle of the former president vouch for the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast who was out-doored in the 2020 elections.

She is however engulfed by other potential candidates for the job. The opposition NDC is looking for something beyond the obvious party attachments which is the vision of the would-be choice.

Since former President Mahama, if he wins in 2024, has limited time, his party is likely to endorse a “co-president” who shares his vision and is likely to continue his work.

On the list are 2 persons virtually unknown by the populace except within a section of the party and in their professional circles. These two are gentlemen with proven acumen in their respective careers.

Reports say that Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang seems to have overcome the inhibition in the unlikelihood of the party choosing from her native region because she is already the presumptive choice, otherwise, her region is considered to have seen it all when it comes to being the NDCs top ticket.

Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, a former Energy Minister who comes from the western region is on the list and there are others like Eric Opoku and Julius Debrah from the pure Akan areas in the geographical middle-belt.  Mr. Kojo Bonsu has dropped his quest but Mr. Leslie Tamakloe remains. The clock is ticking to the point when the NDC reckons to make this important announcement.
