2023 AfCON: Unprecedented chaos unfolds in Ebimpe after Ivory Coast defeat to Equatorial Guinea
In a shocking turn of events at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the defeat of Ivory Coast against Equatorial Guinea (4-0) on Monday in Ebimpe escalated into a wave of destructive acts that marred the sporting event.
The Alassane Ouattara Stadium, which should have been a battleground for skill and sportsmanship, witnessed scenes of chaos and violence as disgruntled Ivorian supporters struggled to digest the humiliating loss.
As the scoreline reached 2-0, a disheartened section of the supporters took matters into their own hands, abandoning the stadium in protest.
The situation further deteriorated after the final whistle, as enraged fans attacked the players upon their return to the locker room, hurling projectiles in a distressing display of frustration and disappointment.
The mayhem wasn’t confined to the stadium premises. Outside, a sense of fear gripped the area as buses, including those transporting supporters from other nations, became targets of the furious crowd. Stones rained down on the vehicles, with reports emerging of significant damage.
There has been no official statement from the Ivorian FA, CAF and the Police.
