When Mozambique went down under the hail of Cape Verdian goals, they were not overawed but demonstrated cool heads that saw their reorganization upfront in the hunt for what eventually eluded them.
The Mozambiquans saw the game with Cape Verde slipping their hands but found the energy to repulse the opponents until they got to the final third of the pitch and blundered with the half-chances created.
Earlier against Egypt, Mozambique had announced their character when they came from a goal down to lead 2-1 before it all ended on parity. In short, Mozambique is not the side that would sag when the odds are against them.
Woe betides the side that takes Mozambique for granted in the dynamics of live matches. Ghana with its underperforming Black Stars has vowed to take Mozambique to the cleaners in its last-ditch attempt to pull the chestnut out of the blazing fire. Either Ghana wins or bows out of the continent’s soccer competition, AFCON 2023, staged in the Ivory Coast.
Mozambique would also be counting their chances as it has a slim chance just like Ghana to advance to the one-sixteenth stage of the AFCON. Both teams have everything to play for, whilst counting on a deceleration on the part of Egypt in the other Group B match involving the already-qualified Cape Verde.
The records favor Ghana but not necessarily the odds unless Mozambique comes along looking jaded and broken. Mozambique has a weak Ghana defense as its trump card, while Ghana also boasts of an attack capable of shooting down any opponents.
