Taxi driver runs over police officer at Agona Swedru
A 27-year-old taxi driver, Kofi Donkor, has been arrested for running over a police officer on duty at Agona Swedru in the Central region.
The incident happened at the Agona Swedru Chief Palace junction when the officer, Constable Ernest Opare, was directing traffic on the busy dual carriage road.
A police source said the driver with vehicle registration number GW 6086-22 was driving on the shoulders of the road.
The impatient driver, who was speeding, reportedly ran over the police officer.
Constable Ernest Opare sustained serious injuries to his back and hands.
He was rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the taxi driver is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
In the same vein, a suspect who was remanded into police custody in Kenyasi in the Ahafo Region has fled from police cells after biting an officer in the cheek.
The suspect, identified as Kwabena Dennis, also reportedly threatened officers with a cutlass for attempting to stop him from escaping.
He was scheduled for the Kenyasi Circuit Court on January 17, 2024, on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit, stealing, causing damage, unlawful entry, stealing, and possession of a firearm without authority.
But on the night of January 16, Kwabena Dennis is said to have charged towards the exit of the police station, wielding the cutlass.
In an attempt to stop his escape, Sergeant Kusi Michael, the station’s NCO, pursued him.
However, he bit the sergeant on the cheek when he tried to physically restrain him and ran off.
