The National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected a petition by the Minister of Trade and Industry, KT Hammond, seeking to disqualify his opponents in the party’s Adansi Asokwa parliamentary primary.

After an initial petition against his main opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, was dismissed by the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, the Trades Minister took his case to the National Vetting Committee.

In his petition, KT Hammond argued that his opponents – Samuel Dakwa Binfoh, Dr. Enoch Acheampong, and Kwabena Nkansah Asamoah, are ineligible to contest the primaries based on Articles 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution.

He further alleged that all the aspirants were not card-bearing members of the governing party and had not done any work in the constituency to merit representing the constituents.

However, during its meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 202the National Executive Committee 4 rejected the petition, clearing the three opponents to contest in the January 27 primaries.

Meanwhile, 33 aspirants are going unopposed in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party has representation.
