Parliamentary race: Atiwa East MP Abena Osei-Asare secures top spot
Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, sailed through the NPP vetting process ahead of the 2024 parliamentary primaries without a glitch, scoring high marks on the day.
The MP has achieved distinction on many scales of assessment, and the latest verdict of the vetting committee adds to her outstanding credentials, combining deputy ministerial duties and attending to the needs of Atiwa East constituents.
Unsurprisingly, the vetting committee endorsed her candidature for another term on Friday, January 5, 2024.
She also picked Number 1 on the ballot sheet after a random pick by candidates vying for the Atiwa East seat.
Ms Osei-Asare led the pack for The Top 10 Most Vocal Female MPs In 2019 and has spearheaded several developmental and social interventions in her constituency.
She expresses excitement after the vetting and confidence in winning the seat again.
“I had the honour of being vetted by our esteemed party for the Atiwa East parliamentary primaries. Flanked by my ever-supportive husband, Kwaku and the insightful Finance Minister, the Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta, it was a day filled with hope and determination.
“I am happy to announce that following a thorough vetting process and subsequent balloting, I have secured the top spot – No. 1 on the ballot!
“This represents a testament to our collective aspiration for growth and prosperity in Atiwa East. I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone, especially the teeming polling station executives who also surprised me with their open support. Your unwavering support and belief in our shared vision empower me to strive for excellence and integrity in serving our constituency.

Her pleasant nature has earned her the nickname ‘Mother-for-all’ in the constituency, drawing the love of constituents who showed up in numbers during the vetting session.
Her latest project in the constituency was the construction of a 3-unit Roman Catholic KG Block in Asamang Tafoe.
From the first day she gained the mandate to represent the people of Atiwa East, her priority had been to provide jobs for her people, with initiatives that benefitted over 600 young people in permanent economic activities.
Through her Waterbrooke Foundation, she supported hundreds of brilliant but needy students even before the NPP government introduced the flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.

Under her watch, over 500 tertiary students have benefitted from financial support and scholarships for further studies.
Her tenure has also seen the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre, classroom blocks and provision of learning materials such as computers to schools in her constituency.
Mrs Osei-Asare has spearheaded interventions via boreholes for water provision for over 30 communities and toilet facilities for many areas.
With the welfare of her people of great concern, she has improved health facilities for her constituents, including the construction of a 20-unit maternity block and a doctors’ flat, the donation of medical equipment, and the renovation of a laboratory.
Infrastructure such as roads, telecommunication and rural electrification projects are part of the various projects to her credit.
Soft loans, training and apprenticeship programmes, start-up equipment, and support for small businesses in her community are part of her initiatives.
