Don’t lower standards set by your seniors – Akufo-Addo to new soldiers
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has charged the newly commissioned officers of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to always maintain the highest level of professional standards set by their predecessors.
The 132 new officers have been sworn in as fully fledged officers of the Armed Forces.
Addressing the Ghana Military Academy’s 2019 Graduation Parade for Regular Career Course 59 and Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course 57 at the Adico Square, Nana Addo said Ghana occupies “a very respectable and envious position on the world stage and She is regarded as the beacon of stability on the continent as well as enjoying the pride of place in the area of peacekeeping”.
“You are those to guard yourself against acts that are likely to bring the name of our beloved country and the image of the Ghana Armed Forces into disrepute. Your actions should be to enhance or at the very least maintain the standards set by predecessor generations of officers of the Armed Forces,” he added.
He then advised the newly commissioned officers to be mindful of the fact that their military uniforms are not for intimidating civilians but rather to protect and secure the territorial integrity of the nation.
Reports gathered indicates that out of the 132 officers, 75 of the number graduated from the Regular Career Course 59, (Army Division).
10 officers from the Navy graduated in the Regular Career Course 59. 18 officers also graduated from the Air Force in the same category.
18 officers from the Army graduated from the Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course 57.
3 officers were commissioned in the same category from the Navy and 8 officers also graduated from the Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course 57 from the Air Force.
