Gh celebs, public unite in Akwaaba Village to support Afua Asantewaa’s record-breaking SingA-thon journey

In an absolute display of patriotism and support, a galaxy of stars and the public have converged at the Akwaaba Village to rally behind Afua Asantewaa o Aduonum as she takes on the challenge of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.

The Ghanaian broadcast journalist commenced the Sing_A_thon journey at midnight on Sunday, December 24, and is aiming to sing continuously until she surpasses the current record-holder, Indian Sunil Waghmare, who sang for an impressive 105 hours in 2012.

Notable figures such as Becca, Eno Barony, Kwabena Kwabena, Kobi Rana, Sista Afia, Cina Soul, Clemento Suarez, DKB, Cwesi Oteng, GMB queen Teiya, Kojo Pjay, Nana Ama McBrown, Anita Akuffo, OB Amponsah, Lawyer Nti, Banzy Banero, among others, have been spotted at the venue, adding their star power to the event.

In addition to these celebrities, numerous Ghanaians have gathered in large numbers to show their support.

The SingA-thon kicked off with the iconic Osibisa track ‘Woyaya,’ followed by a medley of seasonal Ghanaian gospel hits from renowned artists like Tagoe Sisters, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Yaw Sarpong, and Esther Smith. Asantewaa seamlessly transitioned to secular tunes, covering a spectrum from Shatta Wale, Ebony Reigns, Wendy Shay, Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Adina, Samini, Sarkodie to Black Sherif, captivating the audience with a diverse musical journey.

Beyond the music, the venue offers additional attractions, including food and clothes exhibitions, contributing extra layers of celebration to the over 33 hours of pure Ghanaian musical festivities.

Social Media support

Meanwhile, the virtual sphere is similarly resounding with unwavering support from social media enthusiasts and notable figures, with special acknowledgment from none other than the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

For his part, he is confident that the broadcast journalist will make history for the country.

The Veep in a Facebook page expressed admiration for the mother of three who has currently done over 33 hours of her nearly five days singing marathon quest urging her to forge ahead regardless of the difficulties.
