One person killed as truck runs over Christmas hawkers, shoppers at CMB market
One person has died and three others injuries after a KIA truck ran into hawkers and Christmas shoppers at the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) market in Accra.
The accident happened on the afternoon of Thursday, December 21, near the Accra Brewery Limited (ABL).
The deceased has been identified as one of the hawkers in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck with registration number GC 334-09 was loaded with bags of sugar.
One of the eyewitnesses, Akua Serwaa, told journalists that the truck driver tried to move through a narrow space to dodge traffic but lost control and ran into the hawkers.
One of the injured persons, a mother, got badly injured as the vehicle ran over her. A bag of sugar also fell directly on her daughter.
Another woman on the same stretch was also hit as the truck ran over her thigh.
Describing the victims, she said one of them had her intestines gushing out while another’s head was smashed.
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment, and the body of the deceased was transported to the morgue by the police.
Meanwhile, the accident has further aggravated the vehicular traffic situation in the area.
