The Airports Council International (ACI), has ranked Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA) as the best airport in the West African sub-region and 4th in Africa, in the first quarter of 2019.
In the last quarter of 2018, the KIA emerged first in West Africa and 6th in Africa.
Ghana moved from 6th last year to 4th in Africa this year.
President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made this known yesterday at the 28th ACI African annual general assembly, regional conference and exhibition in Accra.
President Akufo-Addo indicated that the recognition had come “as a result of the strong policy initiatives by government and the adherence to high-to-high airport service quality standards of the various airports.
“Our efforts ensured that in April this year, after the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) concluded its coordinated validation mission, Ghana obtained an effective implementation rate of 89.89% highest by an African country, ” he noted.
The ACI annual conference was aimed at providing the aviation community on the continent with the opportunity to share and disseminate vital industry information to strengthen the air transport industry.
The conference, on the theme, ‘Smart airports of the future; are we ready?’ attracted more than 300 participants across the continent to share ideas and exhibit products and services.
