Odai Laryea defeats fmr Minister of Fisheries Afoley Quaye in NPP Krowor primary
The former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, has lost her bid to retain the Krowor parliamentary slot for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections.
At the end of the fiercely contested race on December 2, 2023, Emmanuel Odai Laryea, a civil engineer, polled 747 votes against Afoley Quaye, who secured 373 out of the 1,120 votes cast.
Both candidates contested the primaries for the first time in 2020, but Mrs Quaye clinched the slot but lost the December 7, 2020, polls to the NDC’s Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
Mr Odai Laryea will now lead the Krowor constituency for the 2024 elections to face the incumbent, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
Meanwhile, in the Greater Accra region, Nii Lante Bannerman also lost the Odododiodio parliamentary primary to Abdul Manaf Nii Adjei Sowah, who had 737 votes.
Nii Lante Bannerman was able to secure 524 votes.
