Man Utd learn Andre Onana injury diagnosis as goalkeeper withdraws from Cameroon squad

The Cameroon FA have confirmed that Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has withdrawn from the squad after suffering a pelvic injury against Mauritius.

Onana limped off late in his side’s 2-0 victory with what reports initially described as a muscle problem, but Cameroon have now confirmed he has suffered an injury to his pubis, one of three bones in the pelvis.

“The Cameroon Football Federation informs the public that the player Andre Onana was injured during the match against Mauritius on November 17, 2023 in Douala and is not part of the Indomitable Lions delegation currently in Benghazi,” a statement read.

“Medical imaging carried out by the doctors of the National Team revealed a condition in the pubis.”

Onana will now return to Manchester for further checks by his club. United are back in action after the international break with a trip to Everton next Sunday.

Should Onana fail to recover in time, United boss Erik ten Hag may be forced to hand summer signing Altay Bayindir his first appearance for the club. The Turkey international is waiting for his debut after joining from Fenerbahce for up to £6m.

Bayindir was in international action on Saturday as his side secured a huge 3-2 win over Germany, and will take on Wales on Tuesday to bring the break to a close.

Ten Hag is already sweating on the fitness of Marcus Rashford, who limped off as England picked up a 2-0 win over Malta. Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has already moved to ease fears over the winger.

Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Jonny Evans, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund are all currently out injured.
