National Sports Authority and Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly to manage TNA Stadium
The TNA Stadium, currently under construction with funding from the Gold Fields Foundation, is expected to be managed by the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (TNMA) when it is completed in March 2024.
The stadium which is 90% complete is being built to international standards in the mining area, with an investment of over $10 million.
Abdul Razak Yakub, the Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Foundation, announced this during a media tour of the facility after Goldfields Foundation signed a $100,000 advertising deal with Medeama Sporting Club.
He emphasised that the stadium would be for public use and not exclusive to a particular football team. The facility will undergo a testing period, including playing some testimonial games, to ensure its readiness before being handed over.
Yakub also mentioned that the stadium would undergo inspections by various stakeholders, including emergency services, fire service, and ambulance services, to ensure safety and security. The project engineers at TNMA will need to certify the stadium as ideal for its intended purpose before it can be put into use.
Initially, Ghanaian champions Medeama had anticipated that the stadium would be ready in November to host their CAF Champions League group games. However, with the stadium set to be completed next year, the club have opted to use the Cape Coast Stadium. Medeama are scheduled to face Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad, and Yanga FC in their first-ever group stage appearance.
