Former US Senator for Vermont, and Democratic Presidential Candidate in the 2020 elections, Bernie Sanders has changed direction, thus not an apologist for the general foreign policy stance of his country on the question about Israel and Palestine.
He has urged the United States to demand responsibility from Israel regarding the 3.8 billion dollars in military aid, indicated to be the re-channeling of part of that money to Palestinians in Gaza to live to the best standards of humanity.
Bernie Sanders issued strong advice to the Netanyahu government not to use “a lot of money” in annual budgetary assistance to the Israeli military to exert disproportionate force on the Palestinians.
He said the United States upholds democracy and human rights, thus the tacit conditions for the colossal military support impresses on Israel to accord the Palestinian people, the right to a dignified life and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.
He said Israel has the right to exist and to peace and security. The Palestinians also deserve the same.
Receiving rounds of applause for his speech, Senator Bernie Sanders proposed that assistance to the Palestinians must target reconstruction, the environment, and education.
