The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is working in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders to explore innovative solutions for the evolving transportation industry.

DVLA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Prince Opoku Edusei expressed optimism about emerging technologies that will transform the sector.

He emphasised the need for the DVLA to get on top of issues and be equipped with expertise to adapt to modern trends.

Mr Edusei disclosed this at the maiden edition of the International Driver and Vehicle Licensing Innovation Conference held in Accra, where experts in the transport industry deliberated on innovative ways to improve the transport system.

“We aim to bring together experts in the transport space to deliberate on the future of transport,” he said.

“We all know several transformations have emerged globally as far as transport is concerned. We now have vehicles that drive themselves, vehicles that can even fly. Too many technologies are being introduced as far as transportation is concerned,” he stated.

The conference organised by the DVLA on the theme: ‘The future of road transport’, served as a platform for discussion on how to leverage innovation to improve the transport sector.

The participants were regulatory institutions in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom, and the West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO).
