Commissioner of Police(COP) George Alex Mensah, one of the senior officers implicated in the alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police(IGP), has insisted that he will be vindicated at the end of the investigations.

Speaking to journalists after Wednesday’s in-camera hearing, COP Mensah, who refused to give details of what transpired during the sitting, said his evidence was ready even though he had yet to present it to the committee.

He added that he was happy with the proceedings and optimistic that the truth will come out at the right time.

“I am happy with the process so far. It has been fair. My evidence is ready, and the truth will come out,” COP Mensah confidently stated.

He is expected to make his next appearance before the parliamentary committee probing the issue on October 2, 2023.

COP Mensah, together with Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and George Lysander Asare, both superintendents, were captured in a conversation ostensibly plotting to remove the current IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, before the 2024 general elections.

COP Mensah, a former Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, was invited before the committee constituted by parliament to probe the matter.

He did not hold back as he made several claims about the Ghana Police Service and the IGP.

According to him, his intelligence indicates that IGP Dampare masterminded the recording that has caused huge controversy in the country and leaked the tape.

He said Dr George Akuffo Dampare was the worst IGP because he had gagged police officers and didn’t accept criticisms.

COP Mensah also alleged that the IGP had political affiliations with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare, who also appeared before the committee on Tuesday, September 12, refuted all the claims.

He noted that his administration was one of the best in Ghana’s history, and probably COP Alex Mensah wanted to say the opposite.

“Perhaps my brother wanted to say I’m the best IGP but missed it. The records are there for everyone to see. It is not true my administration is the worst. He missed it. It can never be true that my administration is the worst,” he said.

Dr Dampare also lamented the pain the unsubstantiated allegations have brought upon him and his family.
