Kennedy Agyapong’s ‘Earthquake’ Meeting With Otumfuo

Aptly described as the surprise package in the NPP flagbearer race, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong is the veiled showboy in contemporary Ghanaian politics.

A distant second place in the NPP super delegates congress pitched to prune the field of ten by half, his position on the log by the throw of the dice was dazzling. It fell in the bracket of show boys, to wit, he is considered the man sending the supposed frontrunner to a gasping race.

That performance, according to some political analysts, lodged butterflies in many bellies and wrecked nerves. Now that top contender, Alan Kyeremanten has pulled out of the contest,  Kennedy Agyepong has become the cynosure as the man likely to cause troubles for the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr. Agyepong’s visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia, Kumasi, on 7 September 2023, caught many eyeballs. The vibrant political force that he is, he needed this publicity stunt to present himself as a hybrid of himself and the sobriety that the revered King of Asantes in Ghana symbolized if assimilative of the latter.

His advisors say, ”Surely the politician is on the same page with the traditional ruler about the path to peace in the election of 2024.”
