The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has commenced an exercise to introduce smart card drivers’ licences into the system.
According to the DVLA, these new cards will replace all the Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) cards issued before September 2017.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the authority called on all PVC card holders to submit them to their nearest office for replacement.
“This exercise takes effect from now till March 31 2024, after which all PVC card driver’s licences shall be rendered invalid by the authority. This exercise is at no additional cost to the holder,” the statement said.
It added that all PVC cardholders who fail to replace their driver’s licenses within the period will have to undergo all processes required to obtain a new one.
