Where Is Charles Kofi Wayo?

One of Ghana’s enigmatic, maverick, and flamboyant politicians has gone as quiet as the cemetery in sharp contrast to time in the limelight. Charles Kofi Wayo who acquired the American accent in spoken English after years of domicile there is also known for cigar culture. He spoke his mind without fear or favor and that stirred the political front and catapulted him to the front burner of Ghana politics.

For close to ten years now, Mr. Wayo has chosen the path to oblivion without a trace, taking some of the luster off Ghana’s politics.  He once claimed he knew the confidential records of most Ghanaian politicians through a wire service and superior investigative bodies.

The ammo millionaire hails from Ada in the Greater Accra region. He retreated to the background after synchronizing his political tune with the NDC prior to 2009 when the party came to power under the leadership of the late Prof. Atta Mills. Kofi Wayo conjured a greater ambiance when he declared for the NPP in the year 2000, incidentally another precursor to power by the NPP.

The NPP campaign grounds at Mamprobi Indadfa Park in Accra shook to the foundations during his ‘triumphant’ entry to the arena, on a day marked by the popular Woamachakemi’ statement by (President) Akufo-Addo to resounding cheers from the crowd.

In 2017, he intimated he was going to pitch his tents in the rural areas to help the villages secure the basics of life. Since then the founder of the political party called United Renaissance Party has not been seen or heard of and this looks strange.
