Leaked IGP Tape: Implicated Police Officers To Appear Before Committee On August 31
Police officers implicated in the leaked tape recorded by Daniel Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will appear before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee probing the issue on Thursday, August 31.
The leaked audio tape captured a plan to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo-Dampare, from office.
Chairman of the Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, who disclosed this, said, “Our next sitting is on Thursday. COP George Alex Mensah will appear. Superintendent Asare and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi will also appear. These are the three individuals who will appear on Thursday.”
Daniel Bugri Naabu confirmed the authenticity of the content of the leaked audio tape when he appeared before the committee on Monday, August 28.
According to him, the conversation, which sparked controversy, indeed transpired between himself and three other high-ranking police officers.
Mr Naabu identified the three officers as Commander Asare, Commissioner Mensah and Superintendent Gyebi at the police headquarters.
He further disclosed that the meeting occurred at his office in Osu, even though he could not remember the meeting date.
