Prosecution in Cecilia Dapaah’s stolen cash case asks for more time to conclude its investigations
The case in which seven persons have been accused of stealing money from the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has been adjourned to September 5.
The adjournment comes after state prosecutors asked the Accra Circuit Court to grant them two more weeks to conclude its investigations.
It will be recalled that seven persons including the house helps of the former minister were hauled before the court for stealing $1 million, €300,000, and other valuables from the residence of Madam Dapaah.
The accused persons are Patience Botwe (18, hairdresser), Sarah Agyei (30, unemployed), Benjamin Sowah (29, plumber), Malik Dauda (34, unemployed), Christiana Achab (trader), Job Pomary (mechanic), and Yahaya Sumaila (Excavator operator).
They are all facing 14 counts in connection with the incident.
Their pleas have not been taken yet, as prosecutors are finalizing their investigations.
Also, counsel for the sixth accused Job Pomary, who has been provisionally charged with dishonestly receiving GH¢300,000, formally applied for bail.
The prosecution did not oppose his bail application, citing that investigations for the sixth accused had been completed.
The presiding judge, Mrs. Afia Owusua Appiah, granted bail to Pomary, setting the amount at GH¢300,000, with two sureties required for justification. The sureties must be within the court’s jurisdiction, and Pomary is to deposit his passport at the court’s registry.
He is also obligated to report to the police every two weeks until further notice.
Meanwhile, lactating mothers among the accused individuals have been unable to meet their bail conditions.
Sarah Agyei and Christiana Achab, both nursing mothers, were granted bail on August 8, 2023, but are still in custody due to their inability to fulfill the bail requirements.
