The Nigerian authorities have charged a political activist with money laundering and insulting the president.
Omoyele Sowore was arrested last month after organising street protests against the government.
A few hours ago, a court in the capital Abuja ordered his immediate release.
But Mr Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana, said efforts were continuing to get him released following the imposition of new charges.
Mr Sowore publishes the online newspaper Sahara Reporters and was a presidential candidate in February’s election.
He angered the authorities by calling for anti government protests under the slogan Revolution Now.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is facing criticism for its human rights record especially over a brutal crackdown against Shia protesters.
