Bridgeview Resort files suit against guest over controversial Facebook post
A hospitality establishment operated by Adomi Group Limited, Bridgeview Resort in Akosombo has filed a defamation suit against a guest, Peace Degaulle Dogbatsey.
In her post, the defendant said she booked a room at the resort through Expedia, but on getting to the resort with her husband she was offered a different room.
In seeking further clarification, the defendant claimed the manager was very disrespectful, leading to a heated exchange.
She subsequently shared her negative experience at the resort on her page, accompanied by numerous comments and shares from her followers, expressing both support and criticism of the establishment.
Shortly after her post, Bridgeview said Mrs. Dogbatsey’s online narrative of events is false and malicious in intent.
The resort explained that the defendant had reserved a One-Bedroom Luxury Chalet, complete with detailed descriptions and images.
However, upon her arrival, a dispute arose concerning the configuration and features of the room.
According to the resort, Ms. Dogbatsey’s interactions with staff and management became increasingly fraught with her expressing dissatisfaction and threatening a negative online review.
The situation escalated further, prompting the involvement of the police due to concerns for the safety of guests and employees as well as the disruption caused to other guests.
The hotel contends that her actions have had a detrimental impact on its reputation, both online and among potential customers, and thus the defamation suit.
Bridgeview Hotel is seeking the following remedies:
- A perpetual injunction restraining Ms. Dogbatsey from further publishing, distributing, or circulating the alleged defamatory statements.
- Exemplary damages for injurious falsehood and defamation or libel.
- Special damages for attempted assault on the hotel’s employees.
- A retraction and an unqualified apology are to be published on the front page of leading newspapers, including the Daily Graphic and The Ghanaian Times, as well as on all social media platforms where Ms. Dogbatsey commented on the issue.
- Legal costs associated with the case.
