Police interdicts officer caught dragging suspect on the ground in viral video
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into a viral video where a police officer was captured dragging a suspect on the ground in Dadease, near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.
According to the police, the officer has been detained and interdicted.
In a press statement, the Ghana Police Service stated that the cop will go through the proper legal process.
“The Inspector-General of Police yesterday sent a team from the Ashanti North Regional Police Command to engage the victim’s family.
“He has also spoken to the victim’s mother via the telephone and assured her of a thorough investigation into the matter,” the statement said.
This comes after two policemen were interdicted for failing to rescue their colleague when he came under attack by some youth in the Kumawu area of the Ashanti Region in April of this year.
The officers were on duty with their colleague at a snap checkpoint when he was attacked by a driver and his passengers.
But they failed to rescue him, subdue the attackers and get them arrested.
They were therefore referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for investigation into their professional conduct.
In February 2023, an officer stationed at Sampa District Police Command was also interdicted for handcuffing a suspect without due process.
A cobbler in Suma Ahenkro near Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region was reportedly handcuffed by the policeman popularly known as Opete, who operates a drinking spot, for his inability to settle GH¢2 debt on alcohol he bought.
In a video, the victim indicated that he visited the police officer’s drinking spot with a friend to make a purchase but could not pay for it.
