Engineer granted GH₵40k bail for causing damage

An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of  GH₵40,000.00 with two sureties to an engineer for allegedly breaking a three-course block fence wall worth GH₵40,000.00.

The court, president by Mrs Ellen Ofei-Ayeh, stated that one of the two sureties must have a minimum monthly income of GH₵1,500.

The trial judge required the sureties to deposit their Ghana cards with the court.

Solomon Boye-Doku, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case has been adjourned to August 23, 2023. Chief Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang presented the prosecution’s case during the court proceedings.

The complainant, Mr Solomon Kalitsi, is a businessman residing in Tse Addo, La and the accused, Solomon Boye-Doku, is an engineer living in Emefa Estate, Lashibi.

Seven years ago, Boye-Doku purchased four plots of land from Mr Francis Ashie Anum and his now-deceased brother, Mr Laryea Japo.

However, Boye-Doku only paid for three of the plots.

A few months after Boye-Doku obtained the land, the owners informed him that they required funds to deal with a significant issue.

In response, he requested that they sell the remaining portion of the property, which he could not afford to purchase.

Mr Ashie Anum and his deceased brother sold a block of land to Mr Kalitsi and presented him with a document regarding the plot.

The prosecution claims that Boye-Doku attempted to pay for the rest of the plot to the landowners, but they informed him that Mr Kalitsi had already bought the land.

Mr Boye-Doku requested money from Mr Kalitsi to pay for a fence wall he built around the land. Mr Kalitsi paid the requested amount in front of Mr Nii Botwe Laryea II, the Nunguaman Dzaasetse, and the legal custodian of the land.

According to records, Mr Kalitsi sent his workers on February 24, 2023, to start developing the area by building a fence wall.

According to the prosecution, Boye-Doku unlawfully took down a three-course block fence wall at the site without apparent reason.

On the same day, a report was filed at the Baatsonaa Division, and Boye-Doku was apprehended to assist in the investigations.

He denied the offence in his caution statement.

Boye-Doku informed the police that he owned the land but failed to provide the requested documentation for the area.
