OSP Receives Hundreds Of Calls To Investigate Cecilia Dapaah Over Stolen Monies

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been inundated with calls to investigate the resigned Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, over alleged huge cash stolen from her by her househelps.

The house helps, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, along with three others, allegedly stole $1 million, €300,000, and a substantial amount of Ghana cedis and personal effects of Abena Dapaah and her husband, between July and October 2022.

Social commentators have been calling on the OSP to investigate the source of the money taken from the minister’s house at Abelemkpe, Accra.

While some are happy she had already resigned, many thought the quoted amount was too much to be the personal income she earned.

Madam Dapaah resigned from office on July 22 after she became the talk of the town following media publications on the development.

In her resignation letter, she said she decided to step down because she did not want “this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.”

President Akufo-Addo has accepted her resignation and expressed the desire that the minister’s integrity would remain intact after any probe.

“I am confident, like you, that, at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours.”

He also said, “It is with considerable regret that I accept your resignation, and I applaud your loyalty to the image and standing of the government.

“The work you undertook during your period in government was excellent and productive, and I thank you for your wholehearted contribution and devotion to the progress of the government and the nation,” he stated.
