Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole Bamboi, Yussif Sulemana, says he expects President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately sack the Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
This follows reports that two of her house helps allegedly stole a huge sum of money and some valuable items in her home.
The house helps allegedly stole an amount of US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis from the minister and her husband in their home at Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.
According to Mr Sulemana, it was unlawful for the minister to have kept large sums of money in her house.
“I expect the president to fire her if it’s true that she kept that huge sum of money in her house. The question is, where did she get the money? If indeed that money was legitimate, why did she put it in her house instead of the bank?” he questioned.
The MP added that the president should show interest in the matter to prove that he is committed to fighting corruption.
“If it is indeed established that this woman was keeping such sums of money, the first thing is for the president to sack her. That’s the only way we would know that the president is fighting corruption. The president must act and act immediately. The next stage is that any state institution interested in investigating her could do so freely,” he stated.
Meanwhile, an Accra Circuit Court is currently handling the theft case. According to the prosecution, the culprits stole the items between July and October last year.
The accused persons are facing one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing.
The accused allegedly used the stolen funds to finance various purchases, including renting a three-bedroom apartment and a store in Tamale, buying vehicles, and funding other personal expenses.
