WAPCo announces coordinated emergency shutdown to safeguard pipeline operations

The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has scheduled a coordinated and planned emergency shutdown at its Tema Regulating and Metering Station.

The shutdown will take place on Sunday, July 16, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.

This measure is part of WAPCo’s commitment to ensuring safe and reliable operations of the pipeline.

The emergency shutdown has been authorized by the West African Gas Pipeline Authority, in line with industry requirements.

A press release issued on Sunday, July 16, highlighted the need for the shutdown to maintain the pipeline’s safety and reliability.

The date for the emergency shutdown was carefully coordinated with the Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo), in consultation with the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and other key stakeholders.

The aim is to minimize the impact on communities that depend on power generated from the cleaner and more efficient gas transported through the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP).

WAPCo acknowledges the importance of gas supply for various industries and apologizes to its customers, particularly those in Tema, for any inconvenience caused.
