A lawyer and former legislator, John Ndebugri, is demanding the immediate arrest of the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

According to him, Tiwaa became an accomplice in the kidnapped Takoradi girls’ case after she claimed that the police knew the whereabouts of the girls.

DCOP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on Tuesday, 2nd April 2019 told Ghanaians that her outfit knew the location of the Takoradi kidnapped girls.

After receiving a lot of backlash for the remark, she subsequently said her comment was to give assurance to the families.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, Ndebugri insisted that any serious State would have caused the arrest of the CID boss a long time ago.

“She said that they knew where they [kidnapped girls] were, she must be an accomplice in this matter. This is the situation where a person like that should be arrested immediately. These girls were abducted at different times from different places and the body parts that were found were found at a common place. At a certain point, she said she knew where the girls were. How is it that they knew where the girls were and later on they mysteriously went to some septic tank and found remains of the people there. We must be serious in this country.”

The lawyer argued that the kidnapped girls’ case cannot be dealt with professionally if the CID boss is not made to face the law.

“I am saying that she must be arrested and cross-examined in court. The charge of the State is to arrest her. She is a good candidate for arrest otherwise this case cannot come to a rest. She is an accessory to the crime. I am saying so because of all the evidence available and I am saying so, very forcefully. We cannot let people come to power and commit crimes against the same people who gave them the power,” Ndebugri stated.

Police confirm death of kidnapped girls

The Ghana Police service on Monday revealed that the DNA test carried out on the human parts found in the vicinity of the suspected kidnapper’s home tested positive to the DNA of the four missing girls.

The confirmation was made by the acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh.

“Officers of the Ghana Police service informed four families in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana that DNA test conducted on some human remains discovered into the course of police investigations into the disappearance the four missing girls have turned positive, as the remains of the girls. The Ghana Police service has with regret informed the families that the DNA test confirmed the remains to be that of Ruth Abakah, Priscilla Kuranchie, Ruth Love Quayson, Priscilla Blessing Bentum.”

“Investigations now establish that the girls were victims of a serial kidnapping and murdering syndicate that operated in the Takoradi area.” The acting IGP said.

Families demand resignation of CID boss, others over DNA results

The families of the Takoradi kidnapped girls subsequently called for the resignation of some top-ranking officials of Ghana’s security apparatus after the missing girls were confirmed dead on Monday evening.

The families demanded the resignation of the CID boss, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, and the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah.
