A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Boakye Agyarko, has said that the presidential primaries will be peaceful if the party ensures fairness in the conduct of the polls.

According to the former energy minister, the rules of engagement must be clear to all the parties involved in the elections.

After filing his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters on Monday, June 19, he said, “It is important that all uphold the rules and regulations.”

“Without sounding like a fly in the jar, there have been many provocations, there have been many breaking the rules for which no sanctions have been applied. I have even raised the matter at the national council”.

“So long as the rules are clear, so long as there is total fairness, so long as we are all tempered or measured, I believe that we would have a very peaceful contest. But please do not hold yourself aloof from the entire process,” he said.

So far, five aspirants have submitted their forms.

They are Alan Kyerematen, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku.

Meanwhile, the NPP plans to hold a Special Delegates Congress on August 26, 2023, to select the top five presidential aspirants.

These top five candidates will then compete on December 4, 2023, to secure the party’s flagbearer slot and lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
