An immigration officer stationed at the Kasoa Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) saved a female student of St. Stephens Senior High School in Akwatia from suspected kidnappers.
The Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICO II), Emmanuel Ofosu Acheampong, who was off-duty, was travelling via commercial transport from Nsawam to Dome.
He noticed a young female student repeatedly attempting to enter a parked Toyota Camry car with the registration number GR 3668-16.
Mr Acheampong realized that the female student eventually entered the Camry, and the driver took off.
Feeling suspicious, AICO II Acheampong instructed the commercial trotro driver to pursue the Camry.
Construction works on the highway hindered the Camry from overspeeding, so the immigration officer was able to catch up and apprehend the suspected kidnappers.
During interrogation, the driver of the Camry and his accomplice claimed that the girl was the driver’s niece, a statement the girl vehemently denied.
The video on the alleged kidnapping case shared by Judgement Update on TikTok on June 14, 2023, attracted public attention.
According to the schoolgirl, a rasta man captured in the video obtained her contact from a friend who posted her picture on WhatsApp status.
She recounted receiving a call from the man, who instructed her to meet him in Amasaman during her midterm break.
A search of the Camry car conducted by the immigration officer revealed a pump-action gun with twenty rounds of ammunition and a machete.
While the immigration officer questioned the Camry driver, one of the suspects managed to slip away from the crowd and escape.
The immigration officer and two other public members safely escorted the remaining suspect and the female student to the Amasaman Police Station for further investigation into the alleged kidnapping.
