The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that traffic flow at the Flowerpot Roundabout and some parts of Accra will be significantly disrupted for five months.

The disruption, which is expected to start from today, Tuesday, June 13 to October 31, 2023, is due to the ongoing construction of a flyover over the Motorway.

Motorists traveling along several key routes are likely to experience delays and inconvenience during this period.

The affected routes include Spintex Road (East and West Bound), Burma Camp Road from Giffard Road, and Martey Tsuru Road (East and West Bound).

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic during this period, the Ministry urges drivers to strictly adhere to traffic management and diversion signs placed at designated points.

Motorists traveling from Spintex Road to the Motorway can consider using the Achimota-Ofankor Road or the Airport-Tema Motorway.

Those traveling from Burma Camp Road to the Motorway can explore the 37 Military Hospital Road or the Ngleshie Amanfro Road.

Motorists using Martey Tsuru Road can consider taking the Teshie-Nungua Road or the Nungua Beach Road as alternate routes to reach the Motorway.

The Ministry assures the public that the construction of the flyover will be completed by October 2023.

Once finished, the flyover is expected to alleviate traffic congestion at the Flowerpot Roundabout, improving the overall traffic situation in the area.

The comprehensive construction project encompasses the construction of a mainline bridge spanning 802 meters, two ramp bridges spanning 220 meters, and four auxiliary roads covering a distance of 2.5 kilometers.

Additionally, ancillary works including the installation of drains, culverts, streetlights, and road line markings will be carried out.

Funding for this crucial infrastructure project is being provided through collaboration between the Government of Ghana and the Afriexim Bank.

The project aims to not only alleviate traffic congestion but also contribute to the overall development of Accra’s road network.
