Richmond Mbelbicy, a four-year-old boy, was killed when he was hit by a speeding vehicle near Asante Akura in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region.
The vehicle with the registration number WR 3112-19 hit the boy on Monday, June 5 when he attempted to cross the road.
He was rushed to the Worawora Government Hospital and was declared dead on arrival.
Mr Isaac Asante Wiafe, the driver of the vehicle was arrested and detained at the Divisional Headquarters to assist the Police with their investigations.
The headman of the community, Unikple Majoin, blamed the incident on overspeeding on the road and appealed to the government to construct speed rumps, especially between Nantwi-Akura and Asante-Akura to protect pedestrians on the road.
Meanwhile, after an autopsy and the necessary protocols at the Wowora Government Hospital, the body was released to family members for burial.
A similar accident occurred on the same day when an overspeeding Sprinter bus killed a 20-year-old motor rider at Jukwa Mbem in the Twifo-Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region.
Information gathered revealed that the speeding Sprinter bus was coming from Cape Coast and heading towards Twifu Praso.
On reaching Jukwa Mbem, the driver switched on the headlight, which momentarily blinded the rider, and as he could not see the road, he veered off from his lane into that of the Sprinter bus, which ran over him, killing him instantly.
