The District Chief Executive(DCE) of Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm, has taken drastic measures against a stone processing company for operating without a valid permit.
According to Mr Quarm, Tonnisco Stone Quarry and their Chinese counterparts have refused to make payment for a business operating permit despite the district assembly’s efforts to engage them over the past six months.
He explained that the assembly has introduced the Quarry Development Fund aimed at providing support for the advancement of stone quarry communities within the district.
However, the company has failed to contribute to the fund as part of its obligation to the community in which they operate.
In an attempt to force the company to abide by the regulations, the DCE ordered that the entrance of the quarry be blocked with a refuse container.
He stressed that the refuse container will remain in place until Tonnisco Stone Quarry adheres to both the assembly’s regulations and the laws of the country.
The DCE further indicated that the assembly will not tolerate quarry companies operating without fulfilling their tax obligations and causing detrimental effects on the communities in which they operate.
He expressed his determination to ensure that companies comply with all requirements to safeguard the welfare of communities.
