In the Akan tradition of Ghana, the Manwerehene is the chief or traditional ruler in charge of the interior (synonymous with the government’s interior minister). In Akan chieftaincy, especially related to the Asante Gold Stool where the Monarch is the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, he the Manwerehene, Baafuor Ossei Hyeamann Brantuo VI, is the ”King’s traditional interior minister.”

He is a medical doctor by profession and used to be the radio doctor on Radio Ghana in the 1980s/90s. He has also held a number of prominent positions in the public and private sectors which included board membership of the Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF).

This is how Nana Manwerehene puts his special day,  ”I celebrate 28 years as Otumfuo Manwerehene on the 1st of June 2023, and this day also heralds me as the longest reigning Manwerehene ever since the creation of the Manwere Stool in 1844 by Otumfuo Asantehene Kwaku I, with me Baafuor Ossei Hyeamann Brantuo VI as 12th Manwerehene.

It is going to be a 30-day celebration of church service, Stool room service, Naa Agyeman’s Lectures, involvement of the 22 communities under me – School Football contests, Cooking of local dishes contest, Quiz, Drama, Launching of Manwere Palace Garden Museum, Launching of Bank Agencies under Manwere, Vodafone distribution center, and crowning Durbar on last Sunday of June.”
