Go And Sin No More! – Supreme Court Cautions And Discharges Kpessa-Whyte
The Supreme Court has cautioned and discharged Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte following his conviction on contempt charges.
The decision came after the court panel considered his apology and the mitigating prayer presented by his counsel.
Justice Mariama Owusu, reading the judgment on behalf of the court, acknowledged that while the comment made by Prof. Kpessa-Whyte was concerning, his apology and the steps taken afterward played a role in the court’s decision.
However, the court advised him to be of good behaviour as many people see him as a role model.
The University of Ghana lecturer and former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary hopeful for Shai Osudoku appeared before a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Mariama Owusu, where he pleaded guilty to the charges of contempt.
The charges stemmed from a tweet that the court deemed inappropriate.
He has since retracted the tweet in question, emphasizing that he did not intend to slander the court.
