Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has stated it would implement recommendations of the Otumfuo Committee regarding the conversion of some three male halls into unisex halls.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Chancellor of KNUST, constituted a committee last year to investigate violent happenings at the university.
This disturbance was fueled by agitations from some students who were kicking against the conversion of their halls into mixed halls.
A statement signed by the University’s Registrar on Thursday stated that Otumfuo’s Committee report is currently being studied, and findings will soon be implemented.
“The Committee’s report is currently being studied by the Chancellor, and Management awaits same for due implementation of the recommendations thereof.
“We, in the circumstance wish to reiterate Management’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Committee.”
This statement from management of the KNUST comes after the University campus was declared a security zone, following information picked up that some alumni were plotting a demonstration against the hall conversion.
It is against this background that the University has said it will address the issue in a manner that does not bring about agitations.
