One of the highly-visible political families in Ghana has lost a member. It is no other family than the Ahwois and the Adu Gyamfis which operate under the label of the National Democratic Congress, founded by Jerry Rawlings and currently led by John Mahama.
The late Ama Twum, nee Ahwoi, died of yet-to-be-disclosed illness at approximately 3:25 pm on Saturday, 27 May 2023 at the University Of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).
She was the sibling who came just after the former minister of the Interior and Agriculture, Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi, and just ahead of Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, a former Local Government minister.
Last year, the deceased was an active member among her siblings of eight who lined up before television cameras to grant interviews in the prelude to the launch of their book “House No D13 at South Suntreso Kumasi.
The book which was famously launched by the late Prof. Kwesi Botchway in Accra in 2022, always spotted the late Ama Twum nee Ahwoi, standing in between Kwesi and Kwamena Ahwoi, in accordance with their birth.
The third political figure and the eldest among the siblings is Mr.
Ato Ahwoi, at one-time the Secretary for Energy in the PNDC government. Their female siblings were not into politics and stayed out of public view, until last year’s book launch.
