Police Officer donates salary to help the needy, physically challenged
A police officer with the Accra Regional Command, Lance Corporal Simon Ekpeagba Agbeko has taken the police duty of protecting lives and property to another level.
He uses his salary to buy and donate pairs of crutches, wheelchairs, food and other items for the physically challenged on the streets of Accra.
According to him, the sight of physically challenged and homeless persons begging and being subjected to the harsh weather condition breaks his heart.
Lance Corporal Agbeko said, he is very empathetic of people living with various forms of disability and that is what pushes him to do what he does.
Recounting how it all started, the police officer said, “My first donation was in January 2018 at the Osu children’s home. I started saving coins because things were not that well and I got GHC200 and with the help of some friends I bought some candies and donated it to them.”
“I feel this is what God has asked me to do because I started as a banker before joining the Ghana Police Service 7-years ago and now this” he said to The Ghana Report‘s Aba Asamoah.
The Police Officer recently used his personal resources to fix a broken down traffic light at Odorkor in Accra.
According to him, the duty of a police officer to protect lives and property also includes ensuring the vehicular safety of the Ghanaian citizen.
“We do not have to wait till people are involved in accidents before we will gather crutches or give them money, it is better we prevent the accident from happening and that is what pushed me into fixing the Odorkor traffic lights because over 1000 travelers use that stretch every day, imagine if something should happen because of the malfunctioning traffic light” he said.
