We will review evidence before confirming Hilda Baci’s record – Guinness World Records
The Guinness World Records is yet to confirm Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey as the title holder for longest cooking time by an individual.
Hilda has made an attempt to surpass the world record holder Lata Tondon who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes in India in 2019.
As of 3 pm on Monday, May 15, Bassey, known on social media as Baci had cooked for 95 hours and counting.
Reacting to the attempt to break the record, the Guinness World Records acknowledged her attempt but disclosed that they will review it before confirming her as the titleholder for the longest cooking marathon in the world.
“We’re aware of this amazing record attempt, we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record,” a tweet on their official Twitter page said.
The 27-year-old has been cooking nonstop since 4 pm on Thursday, May 11, and plans to keep cooking till 8 pm Nigerian time today to reach a record goal of 100 hours.
The menu for the event Hilda’s Cook-A-Thon is made up of 250 meals.
Though momentum started out slow on Thursday, Hilda has become a viral sensation with a massive wave of support from Nigerians.
Many people online have wished her well, and politicians and celebrities have called her or stopped by to encourage her at the Amore Gardens location where she’s been cooking.
Meanwhile, Nigerian dancer and World Guinness Record holder Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, better known as Kaffy, has suggested reasons for Guinness World Records’ perceived delay in verifying Hilda’s record.
Kaffy, who set the Guinness World Record for “Longest Dance Party” in 2006, said technical errors could prevent people from getting verified by Guinness World Records.
She said it took almost two weeks for Guinness World Records to confirm her feat in 2006.
