Fijai SHS Headmaster reinstated after interdiction over illegal fees

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated the suspended headmaster of Fijai Senior High School following a probe into charges of illicit fees.

Mr Kenneth Agbomadzi was interdicted in April 2023 for allegedly charging illegal fees from parents.

He was directed to hand over the administration of the school to the Western Regional Director of Education while a committee was set up to investigate the matter.

However, the GES in a statement issued on May 8, 2023, has directed the headmaster to resume his duties at the school.

According to the statement, this call is “based on the outcome of the Investigative Committee’s report on the alleged collection of illegal levies in the school.”

“The Regional Director is to hand over the Administration of the School to you and accord you the necessary support for you to function effectively.

“GES Management directs that the Head, Teachers and Parents of the school should be made to understand that Ghana Education Service (GES) frowns on unauthorized collection of levies and takes every act of illegal collection of monies seriously,” the statement warned.

The GES further warned to take action against any teaching staff who flouts its directives in future.

This comes after stakeholders of Fijai SHS, particularly the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), disagreed with the decision by GES to interdict the headmaster, insisting that he only received fees the parents agreed to pay in order to assist the school.
