An Accra High Court has dismissed the contempt charges brought against North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The contempt case filed by the Secretary to the Board of the National Cathedral Secretariat, Rev Kusi Boateng, is in connection with the national cathedral project.

Rev Kusi Boateng secured a court order barring Mr Ablakwa from making further revelations or allegations against his person about the ongoing project.

He also alleged that the North Tongu MP had demonstrated gross disrespect to the court by refusing to accept court documents when a bailiff approached him after a studio discussion.

But the court on Tuesday, May 2, dismissed the application because the evidence before it was fraught with inconsistencies and doubt.

The court explained that in one instance, the plaintiff claimed the bailiff placed the documents beside the legislator, while documents filed in court also claimed it was dropped in his car.

According to the presiding judge, Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah, such inconsistencies plant doubts which inure to the benefit of the legislator.

The judge also mentioned that there was no evidence showing that the said documents presented were actually the writ of summons and statement of case filed in the defamation case against the MP.

It described the service effected by one Ellis Armah, who it said was not a staff of the Judicial Service, as irregular and contrary to the Chief Justice’s directive.

The court also awarded a cost of ¢10,000 against Rev Kusi Boateng.
