A 39-year-old man was set ablaze at Sehwi Bekwai in the Bibiani Anhweaso Bekwai municipality of the Western North Region. The alleged culprit is a 35-year-old named Dandu.
The deceased, Kofi Kumi, was set on fire after he reportedly referred to the private parts of the suspect’s wife in a hail of insults.
According to eyewitnesses, Kofi Kumi visited a drinking bar to buy an alcoholic beverage but refused to pay after he was served.
The bar attendant, who was left helpless, called on the suspect’s wife to help her collect her money from the deceased, but the issue escalated into an altercation between the two parties, which eventually had to be settled by their families.
However, the neighbours continued mocking Kofi Kumi over the incident, which strayed to the suspect’s wife.
This allegedly infuriated the culprit, who then bought fuel and turpentine to set Kofi Kumi ablaze in retaliation, after which he fled the scene of the crime.
The victim was rushed to the Green Shield Hospital at Sehwi Bekwai but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the Sehwi Ahweaso Hospital morgue for preservation.
Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased, Yaa Foriwaa, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Sehwi Bekwai Police Command to arrest the suspect and bring him to justice.
