A former Kumawu MP and an aspirant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary race Yaw Baah has withdrawn his candidature in the contest.

This makes him the second aspirant to opt out of the contest after another aspirant, Edward Kofi Osei officially announced his withdrawal on Wednesday.

In a letter addressed to the party, Yaw Baah said that he believes the interest of Kumawu will be better served if he stays outside and helps unify the party in the constituency.

He has thrown his support behind the only female aspirant in the race, Ama Serwaa.

Five aspirants will now contest in the NPP’s internal election in Kumawu on Sunday, April 23. The aspirant who emerges the winner will contest for the party in the by-election.

The Kumawu seat was announced vacant after the passing of the incumbent MP, Philip Basoah.
