Tell the public I own ‘KILLER CUT’ phrase in ‘Oye Ohene’ remix- Mantse Aryeequaye to Obrafour
Ghanaian voice actor and the co-founder of Chalewote Street Art Festival Mantse Aryeequaye has shown displeasure with rapper Obrafour who has sued Grammy-award winning artiste Drake for sampling portions of his ‘Oye Ohene’ song in his ‘Calling My Name’ without his consent.
According to Mantse Aryeequaye, he owns the phrases such as ‘Killer Cut’ and Blood’ which were used by Drake in his song released in June 2022.
In a Twitter post on April, 19, Mantse Aryeequaye noted that he was disappointed in the path Obrafour has chosen in relation to suing Canadian rapper Drake for sampling his ‘Oye Ohene’ remix in his personal song without his permission.
“Hi, Mike @iamobrafour I’m disappointed at your actions. Would be good to tell the public the truth about this matter or I will be forced to lay out how you’ve never paid a dime for any of my works on your songs over the last 20yrs,” he tweeted.

According to Nii Mantse, the “rights to the said ‘KILLER CUT’ sound were never relinquished to @IamObrafuor and used by Edward Nana Poku Osei aka Hamma, Producer of Obrafuor’s album on Obrafuor’s song as he did with others.”

Meanwhile, Mantse Aryeequaye insists the rightful owner of the ‘Killer Cut’ phrase is himself Mantse Aryeequaye.
4. @Drake This is to confirm I [Mantse Aryeequaye] insist that
although @IamObrafuor has interest in the matter, he is not the owner of the right, and cannot
assert it, definitely not alone, or make any demands for sole compensation for its use.— #ChaleWote2023 (@Accradotalt) April 19, 2023
Mantse Aryeequaye has therefore directed Drake to get in touch with his lawyer Kofi Bentil before taking any step to compensate Obrafour for the legal suit.
“I wish to convey firmly as the owner of the right and request that you consult my lawyer Kofi Bentil kbentil@lexpraxis.net before you take any steps regarding claims for compensation for the use of the intellectual property of Mantse Aryeequaye. You’ve been notified.”
Obrafour and Drake have not yet made any statement after the controversies surrounding the rightful owner of the ‘Killer Cut’ phrase.
