Adamu Issah, a tipper truck driver residing in Tamale in the Northern Region, has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonment by the Tamale High Court 2.
He was hauled before the court on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
The convict, together with his accomplice, Alhassan (who is currently at large), hijacked a Toyota Hilux pick-up containing various items, including a laptop, mobile phones, money, and other valuables, on May 24, 2022, at Gbanyamni, a suburb of Tamale.
The facts before the court suggest that the victim was accosted at gunpoint by Issah and Alhassan when he reached his home after work.
They demanded access to his mobile phone, which they subsequently took before fleeing in the stolen vehicle.
The victim reported the incident to the police, which led to the arrest of Issah, who was already standing trial for another criminal offence at a Tamale circuit court.
Prosecutors searched Issah’s home during the trial and found items such as a pen drive, laptops, and other valuables that linked him to the crime.
Presiding over the case, Justice Eric Ansah Ankomah convicted Issah based on the evidence presented by the prosecutors and sentenced him to 40 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Issah is also standing trial for another robbery offence. In 2016, he and his accomplice stole a Toyota Hilux pick-up belonging to MTN, a telecommunications company in Tamale.
Issah was later arrested in Togo and handed over to the Ghana police. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
The latest sentence serves as a warning to other criminals and sends a strong message that the law will not spare those who engage in criminal activities.
